Ungroup, a Blog on Education

with 2 comments

Hello,

In this blog I intend to share thoughts and resources related to the education of children.  From theoretical concepts in philosophy of education and pedagogic methods to practical advice for interesting activities for the weekend or even on how to childproof a house.   Basically, anything that I consider worth sharing and sufficiently on-topic.

I decided to write it in English, even if it is not my native language,  because most online resources I find and use are in English.

I called it Ungroup because I think that grouping children by the year they were born is not a great idea.  Like many other things in education it seems a choice made based more in the convenience of the school rulers and employees than in the children capabilities and needs. I believe that different children learn differently and at a different pace.  Nobody seems to argue with that.  Still, all the schools I know group children by age for almost all subjects (extracurriculars tend to be an exception).

Finally, I’d like to share the hopes I hold for this blog.  The first hope I have is that at least a few people will find it useful and will benefit from my effort. At the end that’s my reason for blogging instead of keeping a personal diary.  The second one would be for me not to run out of  ideas or the necessary time (or will?) to regularly post.
